Harley Davidson Motorcycles - circa 1930s

The 1930s were a tough time for many American businesses, but the Harley Davidson company continued to move from strength to strength. Their products were now considered the quintessential American motorcycle. In fact, by 1931 the brand has become so successful that only one competing motorcycle manufacturer still existed in America - Hendee, which produced Indian brand bikes. In 1932, the first Harley Davidson three wheeler was introduced, called the Servi-car. It quickly became a market leader in delivery vehicles, and sold well for decades.

Another first for the company in the 1930s was the introduction of factory run bikes with graphic designs on them. The first one came out in 1933. It was a highly stylized eagle, painted in the popular Art Deco style. This graphic design feature came to be another one of many famous Harley Davidson trademarks. In 1935, a Japanese version of Harley Davidson was born. The Sankyo company of Japan began producing their version of Harleys under the Rikuo name.
